Getting Started

Green Software

It is crucial to shift the culture of building software across the tech industry, making sustainability a core priority for software teams—just as important as performance, security, cost, and accessibility. This means considering how to minimize carbon emissions in every decision made, whether related to operations or the standards and technologies being created and used.

The primary focus is on carbon reduction, not neutralization. One gram of carbon not emitted into the atmosphere is significantly more impactful than one gram of carbon that has been offset. The preferable goal is to avoid emitting carbon in the first place.

Reduction is more challenging than offsetting, and building green software at scale requires the creation of a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tools, and best practices dedicated to reducing the carbon emissions of software.

Fixr is the tool that empowers developers to deliver greener ServiceNow solutions. By highlighting issues that may increase the use of energy or physical resources, Fixr promotes awareness of how the code produced impacts carbon emissions, and provides visibility into actions that can be taken to make the instance greener.
