Is part of our responsibility to change the culture of building software across the tech industry, making sustainability a core priority to software teams, just as important as performance, security, cost, and accessibility. This means considering how to minimize carbon emissions in every decision we make around how we conduct ourselves operationally and the standards and technology we create and use.
Our focus is on carbon reduction, not neutralization. One gram of carbon not emitted into our atmosphere is not the same as one gram of carbon that has been offset. By far the preferable goal is to never have emitted the carbon in the first place.
Reduction is more challenging than offsetting, and building green software and doing it in scale requires the creation of a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tooling, and best practices for the reduction of carbon emissions of software.
CODA is the tool that empowers developers to deliver greener ServiceNow solutions. By highlighting issues that may increase the use of energy or physical resources, CODA promotes awareness on how the code produced impacts on carbon emissions, and gives visibility of actions that can be taken to make the instance greener.
